Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt has confirmed Liverpool tried to sign midfielder Andre this summer.
Liverpool were said to have failed with a bid for Andre as Flu wanted to keep hold of the 22 year-old for their Copa Libertadores campaign.
However, Flu will be more open to negotiations when the market reopens in January.
"Liverpool's chief executive contacted me directly," Bittencourt said.
"I replied to him: 'My friend, I don't sell players now. If you want to buy now to take in January, we can start talking, or if you want to wait until December'."
