PUTATAN: The Jalur Gemilang needs to be hoisted with full respect and etiquette, said Community Development and People’s Well-Being Minister, Datuk Ir. Shahelmey Yahya.

“The Jalur Gemilang is a symbol of pride of Malaysia as a sovereign nation.

“Hence, let us appreciate our Independence Day and defend our sovereignty and peace,” he stated.

He said the people should never take the issue lightly as it affects the image of the nation.

“Respect the Jalur Gemilang as a symbol of our nation’s identity and pride.

“If you see a torn or dilapidated national flag of ours, replace it with a new one.

“If you see a Jalur Gemilang blown off by the wind, pick it up and return it to its original position,” he said when receiving the Merdeka Convoy Putatan level, recently.

Together with Acting Information Director Supian Musa he then flagged off the Convoy in the compound of the Sri Putatan hall.

From Putatan, the Convoy drove to Tanjung Aru Town, then on to the Federal Administrative Complex and on to the Salut Commerical Centre in Sepanggar for the last leg.
