PENAMPANG: The Donggongon Tamu, a decades-old flea market, is still the local community’s go-to spot due to its reputation in offering rare goods.

The weekly market is still vibrant even as it temporarily relocates to an open area within the township to accommodate the ongoing upgrades at the original site. The existing wooden structure, which has weathered the test of time, is undergoing much-needed repairs as parts of the roof and framework had deteriorated.

Despite the temporary relocation, vendors from as far as Terian, a remote village in Penampang, continue their weekly journey, bringing their fresh produce and handmade goods to the market.

Many arrive in pick-up trucks, loaded with both goods and passengers, as they set up their stalls every Wednesday to cater to the steady flow of customers.
