SHAH ALAM, Jan 16 - The Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) acted swiftly to trigger a Yellow Alert under the Selangor Water Source Pollution Emergency Manual after foamy water was detected in Sungai Semenyih, particularly around Taman Sri Tanjung, at approximately 6.30 pm yesterday.

The agency said its team conducted a thorough investigation and preventive measures as the foamy water flow posed a potential risk to the Semenyih Water Treatment Plant (WTP), located about 14 kilometers from the site.

“Immediate inspections were carried out along the initial detection site and several river points, including Kampung Sri Tanjung Bridge, Sri Haneco Bridge, Jalan Sri Tanjung Bridge, and along the affected river stretch.

“Checks found no foamy water at these locations, likely due to heavy rain in the area yesterday afternoon,” LUAS said in a Facebook statement.

LUAS also confirmed that no foam was observed at the Semenyih WTP intake, and the plant is operating normally without any disruptions.

Continuous monitoring was carried out until 1. 30 am today, showing the river conditions as normal and under control with no signs of pollution.

However, LUAS said it will continue regular monitoring, including follow-up inspections of discharges from nearby premises, to identify potential sources and ensure its teams remain ready to respond to any water-related issues.
