Focus on development, not plots to unseat current Sabah govt: Joniston

KOTA KINABALU – Any factions aspiring to take over the Sabah government should wait until the next state election to determine if they have the support of the people, said Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) information chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai.

He said all focus should now be to hasten and intensify efforts to develop the state, and not hatching a plot to unseat the current state government.

He stressed that any move that could bring about political instability in Sabah should be avoided and instead all concerned should focus on strengthening unity.

“Let’s not disrupt the good and productive work the current state government is doing. It is regrettable that certain quarters appear to continue undermining the state government led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor,” said the Kiulu assemblyman in a statement last night.

Joniston said with Hajiji’s able leadership, the state has seen tremendous growth including recording the highest state revenue ever of RM6.6 billion in 2022, among others.

“In addition, the annual assemblyman allocation for this year has been increased to RM3 million, with RM2.5 million set aside for small projects and RM500,000 for touch point programmes,” he said.

Yesterday GRS secretary-general Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the party is ready to prove the validity of Sabah assemblymen’s support for Hajiji as chief minister after it was revealed that certain parties claimed they have the support of more than half of Sabah state assemblymen to form a new state government. – Bernama, January 6, 2023
