Kundasang: Residents in the affected area of Kg Gorowot, Sinisian have been urged to evacuate after a fresh landslide, Tuesday, with Ranau District Officer Tinus Saiman describing the site as very dangerous.
The latest incident occurred nine days after the first, following heavy rain which residents said began at about 2pm.
Tinus advised residents at the affected site to move to safety, while villagers reported that the road had been cut off and no alternative access route was available.
He said a four-inch polypipe installed to drain accumulated water could not cope with the volume during the downpour.
“The polypipe was used to drain the accumulated water, but it could not accommodate the large volume of water flowing out,” he said.
Tinus said the District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) had been monitoring the area following the earlier incident.
“Strong water flow from the hillside caused erosion,” he said.
Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel had also attempted to install tarpaulin at the site, but the strong flow hampered the work.
Tinus said no injuries had been reported so far, with damage involving property and structures.
The number of residents affected, evacuation arrangements and measures to restore road access had yet to be confirmed.
The earlier incident, previously reported by Daily Express, also involved a Perodua Kancil which fell before it could be moved.
Elsewhere in Kundasang, the downpour caused flash flooding at Kinabalu Pine Resort, affecting a parking area and one building.
APM’s Kundasang Unit Operations Control Centre said two personnel arrived at 3.36pm to monitor the situation.
They advised the resort operator to remain vigilant during unsettled weather and immediately report any emergency to the authorities.
Monitoring ended at 4pm. No roads were cut off at the resort, no evacuation centre was opened and no emergency cases were recorded during the operation.
The unit said it would remain on standby and continue monitoring for possible disasters.
