Ordering lunch for a group sounds simple until everyone has a different choice and the person paying has to chase friends or colleagues for their share.

A new foodpanda Ryt Bank partnership aims to reduce that friction by connecting group food ordering with tools for managing shared expenses. The collaboration brings together foodpanda Group Order and Ryt Groups, with both companies also planning wider digital initiatives in Malaysia.

The partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 7 September 2026.

Group Meals Reveal a Common Payment Problem

Group dining remains part of everyday life in Malaysia, from office lunches to family gatherings. But coordinating an order can become surprisingly complicated.

A foodpanda Malaysia poll involving 1,750 respondents found that 38% saw deciding what to eat as the biggest challenge when organising a group order. Another 29% pointed to chasing payments.

Other issues included people changing their orders, cited by 17%, while 16% said waiting for everyone to respond was a frustration.

The findings help explain why food ordering and payment management are being addressed together rather than as separate parts of the transaction.

Connecting Ordering With Shared Payments

foodpanda Group Order lets several people add their individual food choices to a shared order. This reduces the need for one person to collect everyone’s selections manually.

Ryt Groups addresses the other side of the process. Users can create a group, add members and manage expenses, including assigning costs to individual members.

For consumers, the practical benefit is straightforward: ordering and settling expenses can become less cumbersome when several people are involved.

Kenneth Soh, Managing Director of foodpanda Malaysia, said the collaboration looks beyond the food order itself and considers the wider experience around group meals.

Ryt Bank Interim CEO Wilson Soon said digital banking is increasingly becoming part of everyday activities, including paying for meals and managing shared expenses.

Digital Services Move Closer to Everyday Life

The collaboration also reflects a wider shift in Malaysia’s digital economy. Financial tools are increasingly being built around daily activities instead of operating only as standalone banking services.

Food delivery platforms already connect consumers, restaurants, merchants and delivery partners. Linking these ecosystems with digital payment and expense-management services could make routine transactions more convenient while encouraging greater use of digital financial tools.

For digital banks, these everyday use cases also create opportunities to reach customers at moments when banking services have an immediate purpose.

That makes the partnership relevant beyond food delivery. It shows how fintech services can become part of familiar consumer routines without requiring people to change how they organise everyday activities.

Initial Initiative Offers foodpanda Vouchers

As the first consumer initiative under the collaboration, eligible Ryt Bank customers who complete a qualifying Ryt Groups settlement can receive up to RM15 in foodpanda vouchers through the Ryt Bank app.

The initiative runs until 21 October 2026, according to the announcement.

The visual guide included with the announcement also shows how users can create a Ryt Group, add members, record expenses and assign amounts for payment.

While the voucher provides an immediate incentive, the broader value of the partnership could come from how both platforms develop their services after the initial campaign.

Wider Opportunities for Malaysia’s Digital Ecosystem

foodpanda and Ryt Bank said their collaboration is expected to extend beyond group dining.

Both companies plan to explore opportunities involving payments, customer rewards, merchant engagement and other digital initiatives. Financial literacy programmes for delivery partners are also among the areas identified for possible collaboration.

That last area carries wider public value. Platform workers operate in an increasingly digital economy, and practical financial knowledge can support better participation in that ecosystem.

For merchants, closer links between delivery platforms and financial services could also open new ways to engage customers and manage digital transactions.

What the Partnership Could Mean for Digital Adoption

Malaysia’s digital economy continues to move deeper into routine consumer activity. Partnerships such as this show how separate services can increasingly work together around a single everyday need.

In this case, that need is simple: getting a group fed and making sure everyone pays their share.

The foodpanda Ryt Bank partnership starts with group meals, but its longer-term significance may lie in the wider integration of digital commerce and financial services. If future initiatives deliver practical value for consumers, merchants and platform workers, such collaborations could help make Malaysia’s digital ecosystem more connected and accessible.
