A Thai man has been taken into custody for allegedly murdering a woman and disposing of her body in a rice field in Nakhon Pathom, only to discover that the jewelry he stole was fake.

According to the Thaiger, a fisherman stumbled upon the lifeless body of the 63-year-old victim, identified as Noi, around 10 p.m. on February 24. Authorities determined that she had been strangled using a red belt.

When found, Noi was wearing denim shorts, a long-sleeved white shirt, and a pair of gold earrings. The fisherman who discovered her body reported noticing a taxi moving back and forth near the scene, raising suspicions about the driver’s possible involvement.

However, police reviewed closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and found no evidence of the taxi. Instead, the footage showed Noi riding a motorcycle with a local man, later identified as 59-year-old Pairat.

Following an investigation, officers tracked down Pairat and apprehended him at a gold shop where he was attempting to sell the victim's jewelry. The shop owner examined the items and confirmed they were fake, making them worthless.

Recognizing his suspicious behavior, police arrested Pairat at his residence the following day, February 25.

During questioning, the suspect confessed to killing Noi in an attempt to steal her valuables. He revealed that Noi was an acquaintance of his wife and had approached them for help in finding a boyfriend. Seizing the opportunity, Pairat lured her into a trap by pretending to introduce her to someone, only to turn on her and demand her jewelry.

When Noi refused to comply, he strangled her and took two gold rings and a gold chain—only to later realize they were counterfeit.

Pairat maintained that he acted alone and that his wife had no involvement in the crime. However, authorities have summoned her for further questioning.
