A staggering revelation emerged as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, disclosed that over 2,000 migrants were reportedly deceived in Pengerang. Azalina, also the Pengerang MP, alerted the public via social media, emphasizing her outreach to Human Resources Minister Steven Sim to address the concerning situation within her constituency.

The issue came to light when 171 Bangladeshi workers, legally brought into Malaysia but left without employment, made a bold move to seek justice. Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora confirmed their arrest after they marched to the Bayu Damai police station on December 20th, intending to file a report against their agent.

However, their efforts were futile as investigations revealed the absence of job placements for these workers by their respective agent. Instead, a surprising turn of events unfolded when a police report was lodged by the army against the migrants on the same day, leading to their detention by the Immigration Department.

Responding to the crisis, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim directed the ministry to aid these workers in securing employment, a move lauded by Azalina in her recent statement. She stressed the urgency of probing into the companies involved, condemning the exploitation of legitimate migrant workers enticed by false promises of work in Malaysia.

Azalina asserted that such acts amount to crimes against humanity, emphasizing the need for firm actions against negligent businesses. She urged a thorough investigation to prevent further violations of human rights in the business sector, underlining the imperative of safeguarding the rights of vulnerable migrant workers.
