PETALING JAYA: A 27-year-old foreign woman was taken to Kajang Hospital for psychiatric treatment after allegedly causing a disturbance at the International Departure Hall of Terminal 1 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Tuesday.
KLIA district police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Ravi said the incident occurred at about 1.19pm while the woman was waiting to board a flight to China.
He said the woman was allegedly shouting loudly, running around, singing and dancing, disturbing other passengers in the area.
“Terminal security personnel who arrived to calm the situation subsequently brought the woman to the Terminal 1 Police Station for further action,” he said in a statement.
M. Ravi said police investigations found that the woman had been scheduled to return to China on Aug 18 after arriving in Malaysia as a tourist with a friend on Aug 6.
She was later taken to Kajang Hospital and admitted to the psychiatric ward for further treatment.
The woman’s embassy was also informed of the incident.
M. Ravi said the woman was suspected of having a mental health condition and was not believed to be under the influence of drugs.
“She is in stable condition and remains under treatment at the hospital,” he said.
He added that, according to the woman’s friend, she had apparently forgotten to take medication prescribed by her doctor.
