Nottingham Forest midfielder Jesse Lingard missed the chance to play against former club Manchester United on Wednesday night after being injured in the warm-up.

The former United attacker was set to start for Forest in their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against his old side, but was forced to pull out of the team just minutes from kick-off and was replaced by Emmanuel Dennis.

Speaking before he pulled out of the game, United icon and former Forest star Roy Keane insisted the England international is running out of excuses as to why it's not worked out for him so far at the club.

"Jesse was one of the first in the door, there was a lot of criticism about why he signed and the length of his contract, but he's got to go out and perform," Keane told Sky Sports.

"He's not really got going at Forest and that comes down to the player. Almost no more excuses, Jesse's had plenty of excuses over the years."

United won the game 2-0 to reach the final 5-0 on aggregate.
