Form four student killed after car crosses into opposite lane in Setiu crash

A FORM Four student was killed in a head-on collision after a car allegedly lost control and entered the opposite lane along Jalan Kampung Mangkuk here on Wednesday night.

Setiu police chief Superintendent Zahril Asri Mohd Zain said the victim, 16-year-old Che Muhammad Alif Ikhwan Che Amat from Bukit Maras, Banggol, Permaisuri, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident occurred at about 8.50pm and involved a Proton Wira and a Honda motorcycle.

Preliminary investigations found that the 19-year-old driver of the Proton Wira, who is from Kampung Penarik, was travelling towards Kampung Mangkuk when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle before veering into the opposite lane.

"The car then collided head-on with the motorcycle ridden by the victim, who was travelling from Kampung Mangkuk towards Kampung Penarik," Zahril Asri said in a statement on Thursday.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. - July 23, 2026
