MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Thursday arrested former broadcaster and commentator Jay Sonza after a Pasay court issued a warrant over the alleged spread of false information about the health of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr..

Sonza’s lawyer, Mark Tolentino, confirmed the arrest, which took place in Quezon City. He said the former journalist was now under NBI custody as of posting time.

The Pasay City Regional Trial Court issued the arrest warrant earlier in the day against Sonza and Eric Celiz for allegedly disseminating false or prohibited information to the public through the internet or other media platforms, specifically regarding the president’s health condition.

Sonza, a veteran media figure, had yet to issue a statement.
