Former butcher jailed after he dismembered murder victim’s body into concrete-filled barrel

  • Farmer Christopher Wright, 73, has been sentenced to a minimum of 35 years in prison for the murder and dismemberment of Richard Dyson.
  • Wright, a former butcher, was convicted last month of killing Mr Dyson, 55, who vanished in 2019 after living in his car on Wright’s land in Hoyland, Barnsley.
  • The pair fell out over suspected theft, leading Wright to shoot Mr Dyson in the arm and chest before dismembering his body and encasing it in a concrete-filled barrel.
  • Mr Dyson’s remains were discovered last year hidden within the barrel, which Wright had placed on a trailer and persuaded an unwitting neighbour to store.
  • Wright’s childhood friend, Karl Schwalbe, 72, also received a three-year prison sentence for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice for his role in concealing the crime.
