A former Congress councillor has been accused of forcibly entering a house along with several accomplices from his gym and assaulting a family over an ongoing dispute linked to alleged illegal construction.
The incident, reportedly captured on CCTV camera, has led to a complaint being lodged at the B-Division police station. Police officials said the matter is under investigation.
Baljinder Singh, Station House Officer, said the allegations are being verified and CCTV footage is under analysis. He added that appropriate action would be taken following a preliminary probe.
Harjot Singh, a resident of Mahant Laxman Dass Abadi on Sultanwind Road, alleged that the former councillor had raised a multi-storey building in their lane through illegal construction. He claimed repeated complaints had already been submitted to the concerned civic authorities, but no action was taken.
According to Harjot Singh, the construction activity allegedly caused structural damage to nearby houses. He said cracks had developed not only in his house but also in five to six other homes in the locality.
Following alleged inaction by the authorities, the affected residents collectively filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the construction.
Harjot Singh alleged that this angered the former councillor, who began issuing threats. He claimed that on Friday, the accused councillor, accompanied by around 25 to 30 associates, forcibly entered his residence and assaulted him and his family members.
The complainant alleged the group threatened them with dire consequences for approaching the HC and attacked family members with iron rods, sticks and other weapons, leaving several hurt.
