The Indian National Congress in Pathankot district received a shot in the arm ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections, now only a few months away, as two-time municipal councillor Gaurav Wadhera quit the Aam Aadmi Party and rejoined his parent party, the Congress.
“With Wadhera’s re-induction into the party, the Congress has grown stronger. He is a well-known leader in the area and his presence will help us secure a sizeable number of votes in the elections. His father had also held important posts in the PPCC,” said Amit Vij, former MLA from Pathankot and the leader credited with facilitating Wadhera’s return.
Wadhera rejoined the Congress in the presence of Bhupesh Baghel, Punjab Congress in-charge appointed by the AICC; Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, president of the PPCC; MPs Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Amar Singh; former Cabinet minister Aruna Chaudhary; Suraj Thakur; Gurdaspur MLA Barindermeet Singh Pahra; and former Pathankot Mayor Panna Lal Bhatia, among several other leaders.
Amit Vij said Wadhera had played a key role in the 2017 Assembly elections, when the Congress won the Pathankot seat after a gap of 10 years.
