A local court today dismissed an anticipatory bail application filed by former cricketer and veteran actor Yograj Singh in a case registered against him for allegedly making derogatory remarks against women in a viral clip from a web series.
Yograj, father of former cricketer Yuvraj Singh, had filed his application in the district court on May 16. The Sector 36 police registered the case under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and 62A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, on a complaint filed by advocates Ujjwal Bhasin and Jatin Verma on May 14.
The complainants alleged that the remarks in the clip allegedly made by Yograj were not only indecent but also perpetuated misogyny, undermining societal respect for women. Yograj’s counsel argued that the actor was merely playing a fictional character on screen and was strictly bound by the contract.
The state, in its reply filed before the court, said the voice samples of the accused and original records related to the alleged video were required for the investigation.
