Former DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson to appeal conviction for sex offences

  • Former DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson is to appeal his conviction for 18 sex offences, including one count of rape, which occurred last month.
  • Donaldson, 63, was found guilty at Newry Crown Court of abusing two women when they were children.
  • His solicitor, John McBurney, confirmed on Friday that appeal papers have been lodged with the relevant office for the Court of Appeal.
  • The Northern Ireland Assembly has launched a review into alleged abuse or inappropriate behaviour by Jeffrey Donaldson at Parliament Buildings in Stormont.
  • This review, requested by Assembly Speaker Edwin Poots, will run from 10 July to 21 August and aims to gather information from members, staff, and visitors, with a report due by 28 August.
