KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a former political secretary to the former Chief Minister of Melaka and his wife on suspicion of soliciting and receiving a bribe of approximately RM3 million.

The alleged bribe was reportedly offered in return for assisting a company in securing a concession for a land reclamation project in Melaka.

MACC confirmed the arrests through its official TikTok account, stating that the suspects, who include the former Deputy Exco member of the state government, were detained around 2 p.m. today while providing statements at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

“Initial investigations suggest that the suspect, who holds the title ‘Datuk Wira’, is believed to have committed the offence between February and November 2021,” MACC said.

The commission added that the couple is suspected of using the illicit funds to purchase a condominium unit in the Klang Valley.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and stated that the case is being investigated under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009. The couple is expected to be brought before the Putrajaya Magistrates' Court tomorrow for a remand hearing. – February 11, 2026
