PUTRAJAYA, Sept 8 — A former minister who was remanded over an investigation linked to the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) was released on Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) bail today.
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed the release, Sinar Harian reported today.
“He (the former minister) has been released on MACC bail,” he said today.
The man, in his 60s, was initially remanded for five days from September 2 to 6 before his remand was extended by another two days until today.
The former lawmaker was detained after he appeared at the MACC headquarters here on September 2 to give a statement and was investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
The RCI report, which was made public on July 29, contained 25 key recommendations aimed at improving transparency, professionalism and governance at the institution.
Among the recommendations was a proposal to bar active politicians from serving on the TH board to prevent political interference.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim had also called for investigations into the findings of the TH RCI to be pursued “to the ends of the earth”.
