A former national shuttler who is currently coaching in China was recently caught on video stating that the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) shortcomings is due to the management which is led by Malays.
In the video, he said, “During the Malaysian Open, no national shuttler made it into the finals. Are the players to be blamed, or is it BAM’s fault? The biggest problem here is BAM.”
“I think this is because the management of BAM is led by the Malays. Don’t give it to the Malays, change it to the Chinese instead and you can see improvements.”
“…this is because, the Malays in my mind are lazy and know only to eat, because they pray five times a day, hence they have no intention of looking after BAM,” he added.
His comments has been widely criticised. On Twitter, netizen @AhboyBadminton slammed the national shuttler for his racist rant on social media, post-Malaysian Open failure by Malaysian badminton players.
In the caption he wrote, “Former national shuttler Guang Yik says that BAM is run by the Malays. They pray five times a day and has no intention of running BAM.”
“It is already 2023, and you still have this mindset. Racist!”
Disgusted @AhboyBadminton responded by saying that this person should have used his brains when talking.
“If you think you can do better, why not come back to Malaysia and turn your words into action.”
Commenting on the video, netizens tagged Minister of Youth and Sports @hannahyeoh and several other political figures to start taking action against the former national shuttler.
