
Eminent jurist and former Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal Hargovind Singh Pradhan passed away in Dharamsala on Wednesday after a prolonged illness. He was 96. Born in 1930, Justice Pradhan had pursued a Master of Laws degree from Dallas in Texas, USA, before embarking on a distinguished legal career marked by scholarship, integrity and dedication to justice. He served with distinction as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal and earned widespread respect in legal circles in Nepal and India for his contributions to jurisprudence and the legal fraternity of both countries. After his retirement, Justice Pradhan had permanently settled in Dharamsala, where he remained actively associated with academic, social and public service activities.
Justice Pradhan was known for his gentle personality and intellectual depth and was regarded as a compassionate and erudite figure who upheld the highest traditions of the legal profession. He is survived by his wife Kamala Pradhan, three sons and a daughter.
The cremation took place in Dharamsala on Thursday. His family members, friends, members of the Bar and prominent citizens attended his funeral. Dharamsala MLA Sudhir Sharma was also present to pay his respects and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of the people of the city.
