PUTATAN: Former Penampang MP Paul Nointin declared his support for Upko and subsequent support for Pakatan Harapan (PH) Penampang candidate Datuk Ewon Benedick, Monday.
Paul’s application was submitted to Ewon at the former’s home in Putatan, bringing along 1,288 others with him.
With this, he also declared his support for the Putatan PH candidate Awang Husaini Sahari.
In his speech, Paul said the election of Ewon as Upko’s new president has opened the interest of many, believing that the party will continue to grow.
“Upko has a bright future with Ewon. He has clear leadership and direction for the party and the people. That’s why I chose to join and become the Chief Sponsor for the Putatan Division,” he said.
Ewon, meanwhile, welcomed their entries with hopes that former leaders and previous party members would return to the fold.
“In welcoming Paul and other supporters, I have also invited former Upko leaders and members to return, as well as friends without political affiliations to come together. I am always ready to cooperate, serve and lead Sabah through Upko and Pakatan Harapan.
“I am proud that I will be able to work with the former Penampang MP in continuing the agenda of forming a federal government which rejects corruption and abuse of power as the foundation.
“PH Sabah maintains firmness in demanding Sabah’s rights. That benchmark has been set when our MPs filed a suit against the government on June 3 towards the granting of 40 per cent of federal revenue in Sabah.
“This claim was also included in PH’s manifesto or offer to the people of Sabah in this general election,” he said in his speech.
Also present at the event were Putatan PH candidate Awang Husaini Sahari, Upko Deputy President Datuk Donald Mojuntin and former Putatan MP Datuk Marcus Mojigoh.
