THREE former Perlis state assemblymen who have indicated their intention to return to PAS will be required to reapply as new members and undergo the party’s standard admission procedures, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said on Monday.

He said all applications would be processed in accordance with existing party rules, in the same manner as any other membership request.

Takiyuddin said he had so far only been informed of the matter but that his office had yet to receive any formal applications from the individuals concerned.

“I was informed that all three of them have submitted new applications to join PAS, but as of now no official applications have been received by my office.

“That information was only conveyed to me through the Syura Council secretariat yesterday,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after visiting a warehouse storing imported fruits and onions that was destroyed in a fire along Jalan Kebun Sultan here.

Previously, media reports said the PAS Syura Council would leave it entirely to the party’s central leadership to decide on the appeals submitted by the three former Perlis assemblymen, who were expelled following the state’s political crisis last month.

The three former assemblymen are Saad Seman of Chuping, Fakhrul Anwar Ismail of Bintong and Mohd Ridzuan Hashim of Guar Sanji.

Elaborating further, Takiyuddin, who is also the Kota Bharu Member of Parliament, said each application would be subjected to the usual vetting process before being referred to the PAS Central Committee for deliberation and a final decision.

“The decision on whether the applications are approved or otherwise will be determined by the party’s central leadership,” he said.

For the record, PAS terminated the membership of the three assemblymen after they, together with five assemblymen from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, declared their support for the new Perlis Menteri Besar, Kuala Perlis assemblyman Abu Bakar Hamzah, replacing PAS assemblyman for Sanglang, Shukri Ramli. - February 3, 2026
