MANILA, Philippines — Former Public Works chief Manuel Bonoan is “clinically stable” and his hypertension is controlled but continues to receive medication under the supervision of the Philippine National Police General Hospital (PNPGH) in Camp Crame.
Lt. Col. Benaly Bayani, chief of the hospital’s Internal Medicine Department, said Bonoan's attendance to the Sandiganbayan hearings over his alleged involvement in flood control controversies was an indication of his stable condition. Last June, Bonoan was admitted to the PNPGH due to acute coronary syndrome, chronic kidney disease, prostate cancer, type 2 diabetes, spinal issues, carcinoma, and heart failure.
Speaking in Filipino, Bayani said Bonoan was under maintenance medication for his condition. "So that's what we're giving him for now. He is clinically stable, blood pressure is controlled."
Bayani also confirmed that Bonoan was no longer using a wheelchair and able to walk.
Meanwhile, the PNP General Hospital has yet to receive an order from the Sandiganbayan regarding Bonoan’s possible transfer or discharge from hospital detention.
