Former RTM chief Jaafar Kamin dies

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 — Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) ex-director-general Datuk Jaafar Kamin died aged 81 at his home in Section 9, Kota Damansara, today.

The news was confirmed to Bernama by Jaafar’s relative, Rosihan Anuar Ahmad, who said he died at 3.15pm.

His remains will be brought to the Masjid Kuning in Section 5, Kota Damansara, for funeral rites, before being laid to rest at the Section 9 Kota Damansara Muslim Cemetery.

Jaafar had been admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital for hernia surgery about a week ago, and was discharged on Tuesday.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Jaafar was one of the longest-serving directors-general of RTM, holding the position from 1988 to 1999.

He was also president of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union from 1992 to 1998.
