Former Sabah DIDR director Tseu Kei Yue denies 20 counts of abetting staff to obtain over RM100,000 in valuable items from companies linked to the department.

KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah Department of Industrial Development and Research (DIDR) director Tseu Kei Yue pleaded not guilty to 20 counts of abetment in a corruption case.

The 58-year-old, now deputy director of the Sabah Economic Planning Unit, entered his plea at the Special Corruption Court before Judge Elsie Primus.

He is accused of abetting several DIDR staff members to obtain valuable items without payment from companies with official dealings with the department.

The alleged offences, involving items worth over RM100,000, occurred between December 2023 and January 2024.

Charges were filed for 15 incidents in Kota Kinabalu, three in Tawau, and two in Sandakan.

The items involved included mobile phones, washing machines, laptops, and tablets.

The charges are framed under Section 109 of the Penal Code, punishable under Section 165 of the same law.

A conviction carries a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutor for Sabah Rustam Sanip prosecuted the case.

The accused was represented by counsel Bartholomew Jingulam.

The court granted bail of RM30,000 with a RM10,000 deposit and imposed several conditions.

Tseu must report to the MACC office every two months and surrender his passport to the court.

He is also prohibited from interfering with prosecution witnesses.

The court set April 24 for the case’s remention.
