FORMER Sabah Infrastructure Minister Datuk Peter Anthony, who is serving a three-year prison sentence in Kajang Prison for forging documents relating to maintenance and service contracts at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), was released on parole two weeks ago.
The Prisons Department's corporate communications unit confirmed the matter to the New Straits Times today.
"He was granted release through the Prisoner Licensed Release Programme and is currently in Sabah," a source said.
On May 26, 2022, Peter was sentenced to three years in prison and a fine of RM50,000 after being found guilty of using forged documents relating to a system maintenance contract.
As the Managing Director of Asli Jati Sdn Bhd at the time, he was charged with forging a letter from the office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UMS dated 9 June 2014 by including false statements for the purpose of misleading.
The offence was allegedly committed at the Office of the Principal Private Secretary to the Prime Minister at the Perdana Putra Building, Putrajaya, between 13 June and 21 August 2014.
On 20 August 2025, Peter's last attempt to overturn the conviction failed after the Court of Appeal upheld his three-year prison sentence and a fine of RM50,000.
He then filed a review application to challenge the Court of Appeal's decision, which confirmed the conviction and sentence imposed by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court in May 2022.
Peter won the Melalap State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat in 2018 and 2020 under the WARISAN Party.
