TAWAU: The Wildlife Department (JHL) in Tawau has shot dead four crocodiles during a culling operation at Sungai Udin, Kalabakan, conducted from October 18 to 20.

One of the crocodiles, measuring 17 feet 9 inches and weighing 390 kilograms, was killed at Kampung Pangkalan Asli, Merotai, around 7pm on Thursday.

The other three crocodiles measured 7 feet 5 inches (60 kg), 12 feet 7 inches (250 kg), and 11 feet 2 inches (190 kg), respectively.

All four were caught within 48 hours after taking baited hooks set by the JHL team.

The department said shooting the hooked crocodiles was a safer method, allowing officers to retrieve the carcasses for measurement and identifcation.
