FOUR families in Jalan Bukit Indah 12/12, Bukit Indah in Johor Bahru are living in fear after their home was pelted with petrol bombs or `Molotov cocktails' by an ah long (illegal money lenders) syndicate for two consecutive days last week.
Sharing the development via his Facebook account, Perling State Assemblyman (ADUN), Liew Chin Tong, did not deny that the incident last Friday was masterminded by an ah long syndicate from Singapore.
He said the petrol bomb was believed to have been aimed at a house, but the fire spread to three neighbouring houses before the same incident was repeated the next day.
"This violent crime was committed for the second time on May 9, after the criminals committed the same act the day before. The mastermind behind this crime is believed to be a Singaporean ahlong syndicate," he said.
Apart from the structure in front of the house, several cars belonging to the victim were also destroyed by fire.
Liew said police are investigating the case and have increased patrols in the area.
Meanwhile, the Iskandar Puteri District Police Headquarters (IPD) confirmed that it had received a police report regarding the incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 5(2) of the Moneylenders Act 1951 and Section 435 of the Penal Code. – May 11, 2026
