Four held, ketum seized in Ranau ‘Operasi Tapis’

RANAU: Continuous effort of the police in conducting “Operasi Tapis” here has yielded results with four arrests made, in addition to the confiscation of ketum.

On Aug 11, 2024, acting on a public complaint, a police team from the Ranau District IPD Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD) raided and inspected an unnumbered house in Kampung Kaparingan, here.

In this raid, police arrested a local man and confiscated a polystyrene container containing some dark green water suspected to be ketum water.

A day before, a team of Officers and Policemen from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) of the Sabah IPK and the District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJND) of the Ranau IPD raided an unnumbered house in Kampung Bongkud, Jalan Kampung Narawang.

Read more In this raid, a 41-year-old man was arrested in front of the house on suspicion of selling ketum liquid and powder.

During the inspection, police found a white polystyrene container used to store 16 bottles of dark green liquid suspected to be ketum water.

An inspection next to the suspect’s house found 11 green sacks, three white sacks and a black plastic package, each containing 369 packets of ketum powder.

The case was investigated under Section 30 (3) of the Poisons Act 1952.

Meanwhile, police also arrested a 34-year-old unemployed man in a raid on an unnumbered house in Kampung Matan, Ranau during Operasi Tapis on Aug 9.

Police found equipment for cooking ketum water, 13 bottles filled with dark green water suspected to be ketum water, and about one kg of suspected processed ketum leaves.

A 38-year-old man was arrested in a raid at Kampung Dumpiring, Kundasang.

Police found 23 1,500 ml drinking water bottles used to store water containing a dark coloured liquid suspected to be ketum water.
