Four hurt in Kunak crash

KUNAK: Two people were injured, including a trapped victim, in an accident involving a Proton Persona and a lorry along Jalan Kunak–Tawau, near Kg Simpang Empat here, on Wednesday morning.

Kunak Fire and Rescue Department Chief Mohammad Omarbatha said the department received an emergency call via the NG MERS line at 7.46am.

A team led by PBKII Ibrahim Ismail, along with six personnel, was dispatched to the scene with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle, about 8km from the station.

“There were four occupants in the Persona. A 56-year-old female passenger sustained serious leg injuries, while a 55-year-old man suffered minor injuries. Two other passengers, a 27-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, were uninjured,” he said.

One victim who was trapped in the Persona was extricated by firemen and transported to hospital using the EMRS vehicle, while a Ministry of Health ambulance also assisted at the scene.

The operation was concluded at 8.17am.
