TAWAU: Four people including a girl were injured in a three-vehicle pileup at Jalan Balung, last Sunday.

Tawau Fire and Rescue Chief, Jemishin Ujin, said the vehicles involved a Toyota Vigo Single Cab, Toyota Vigo Double Cab and an Isuzu Dmax.

He said one victim was trapped in the Toyota Hilux Single Cab while two others were extricated by members of the public before the rescue team arrived at the location.

The driver of the Toyota Vigo Double Cab, a 53-year-old man, did not suffer any injury.

“The victim in the Isuzu Dmax was also removed by the public and sent to the hospital before the arrival of the fire brigade at the location,” he said.

Jemishin said his team managed to extract the victim who was stuck in the Toyota Hilux Single Cab and was given initial treatment by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit.

He added that the injured victims consisting of two men, a woman and a girl aged between eight and 45 years old were taken to Tawau Hospital by ambulance and EMRS to receive follow-up treatment.

Earlier, a team of seven firemen on two fire engines were deployed to the location some 30km away from the station upon receiving the 6.38pm distress call.

“Operations ended at 7.26pm after ensuring there was no other safety risks at the location,” he said.
