Four jailed for having housebreaking tools

Kota Kinabalu: Four men were sentenced to three months’ jail on Wednesday for having housebreaking tools, last week.

Md Fickry Nursin, 31, Md Amirul Syah, 22, Saharizan Madin, 33, all unemployed and mechanic Zamri Yacub, 42, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to having two units of steel cutter, two units of pipe cutter, a unit of flower tree cutter, a pipe wrench and one drill drive without a valid explanation at 1.50am on Jan 17 at Lorong Iramanis, Taman Iramanis, Luyang.

They were jointly charged under Section 18(e) of the Minor Offences Ordinance which carries a jail term of up to six months on conviction.

The prosecution informed the court that the four were detained by police while on board a car driven by Fickry where the police found the said tools inside the vehicle.

The four failed to give a valid explanation regarding the said tools and were then brought to the police station.

Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence representing the four applied for leniency saying Zamri works as a mechanic while the rest were jobless.

The four were ordered to serve their jail terms from the date of their arrest on Jan 17.

In the same court, six men were penalised for drug-related offences.

Five of them, Odrick Davester, Rasit Arifin, Edgar Cardin, Mazlan Rasa and Adzroy Hirwan pleaded guilty separately to taking syabu and amphetamine at different locations here and in Penampang between Dec 1 and Dec 11, last year.

Odrick was jailed 12 months, Rasit and Edgar were fined RM4,000 or 12 months jail each, Mazlan was handed nine months while Adzroy was fined RM2,000 or nine months jail.

Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail on conviction.

Meanwhile, the sixth man, Md Azzufardaus Jafar was ordered to pay a fine of RM2,500 or spend nine months in jail for having syabu as framed under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years jail or both on conviction.
