
Four dead, including a one-year-old baby, after a trailer carrying wood dust crushed their car on the East Coast Expressway near Karak.
KUALA LUMPUR: Four individuals, including a year-old baby girl, were killed when the car they were in was crushed by a trailer carrying wood dust at Kilometre 43.2 of the East Coast Expressway heading towards Karak this afternoon.
The Pahang Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre said that the four, A Halim Hasoon, 55; Rozita Buang, 58; Norbahyah A Halim, 26, and Nayla Afya Aizat. one, died at the scene of the crash between their Honda City and the trailer.
“The trailer driver was reported to have been injured and was handed to the Health Ministry for further treatment,” the centre said in a statement today.
The centre said they received a distress call at 4.35 pm and a team from Bentong Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the location to extricate the victims using special equipment, adding that the operation ended at 6.33 pm with the bodies handed over to the police further action.
Meanwhile, the highway concessionaire, AFA PRIME Berhad issued a statement stating that the trailer was believed to have skidded before crushing the car that was in the slow lane, and both vehicles came to a stop in the emergency lane.
The slow and emergency lanes were closed temporarily for rescue work and the moving of vehicles.
