Four women were found safe after getting lost on Bukit Cherok Tokun, rescued by a joint team of firefighters, police, and the public

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Four hikers who went missing on Bukit Cherok Tokun have been found safe following a search and rescue operation.

The 25-year-old women were reported missing after they failed to return from a hike yesterday.

The Penang Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 5.47 pm and immediately deployed a team from the Bukit Mertajam station.

Assistant director of operations John Sagun Francis said one of the women managed to send their location via WhatsApp.

Two of the hikers were located by the search team at 8 pm.

The remaining two individuals were found at 11.03 pm after the search area was expanded.

The operation concluded successfully at 11.40 pm.

It involved personnel from the fire department, the police, and members of the public. – Bernama
