THE State Government aspires to create a balanced region by reducing the urban and town development gap throughout the State, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Towards this end, he said, the State Government will emphasise on four main thrusts, namely transforming the delivery service of local authorities (PBTs); enhancing and sustaining the housing development sector; sustainable and systematic land use development planning; and strengthening the functions and roles of the Native Courts.

For next year, he said, the State Government allocates RM204 million to the Ministry of Local Government and Housing (KKTP) for operation and continuation of existing projects, besides implementing various new projects such as upgrading of markets, tamu sites and stalls around Beaufort town, Membakut, Weston, as well as Keningau; developing seawall in Sandakan; Beaufort Lake Park; and waste disposal sites in Kuala Penyu and Kinabatangan.
