Police have apprehended four men, including two foreign nationals, in relation to a murder that occurred in Bidor on Monday. The arrests come after an initial report was lodged by the victim’s sister-in-law, according to Tapah district police chief Supt Mohd Naim Asnawi.
The series of events began when the police received a distress call at approximately 4:21 am from the complainant, who reported that an incident had unfolded at a factory workers' quarters in Bidor. The complainant, the sister in law of the 34 year old victim, informed the authorities that she had overheard an argument involving her husband and one of the suspects.
The altercation reportedly took place around 2:30 am. The complainant stated that while she was at the workers quarters, she heard her husband engaged in a dispute with one of the local suspects concerning the victim, who was already injured and struggling to breathe, Mohd Naim said in a statement.
The argument escalated when the suspect allegedly attacked the complainant’s husband, striking him on the head with a hammer. The blow caused significant head injuries, prompting the couple to immediately seek medical attention at Tapah Hospital.
Following their visit to the hospital, the couple returned to the workers quarters only to find the victim lying motionless outside the premises. According to Mohd Naim, it was at this point that they suspected the victim had succumbed to his injuries and contacted the police.
Acting swiftly on the report, law enforcement authorities conducted a series of arrests over the course of two days. The suspects, including two foreign nationals aged 28 and 37, and two local men aged 33 and 44, were detained at various locations. The two foreign nationals, who worked at the same factory as the victim, were residing in the workers quarters at the time of the incident.
A background check on the suspects revealed that the foreign nationals had no prior criminal records, while the two local suspects had histories of criminal involvement, including drug-related offenses.
The police chief stated that the two foreign nationals have been remanded for seven days to facilitate further investigations. As for the local suspects, the authorities plan to request a remand order from the Tapah Magistrate's Court to extend their detention for questioning.
While the investigation is still ongoing, authorities have yet to determine a definitive motive for the murder. The motive for the incident is still under investigation, said Mohd Naim. The case is currently being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which pertains to murder. If convicted, the suspects face severe penalties, including the death sentence.
This shocking incident has rattled the community in Bidor, and the police are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses to piece together the events that led to the victim’s tragic death.
