
Kota Kinabalu: Four individuals were penalised by the Magistrate’s Court here for unlawfully having a total of RM23,630 in their bank accounts.
Mohamad Shukran, 38, Jaludin Kassim, 70, Philippa Marcell, 35, and Sukariman Lagonda, 45, pleaded guilty separately to committing the offence under Section 22A (1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance (MOO), which provides a fine of RM100 or up to three months’ jail, or both, on conviction.

The charges stated that the transactions raised suspicions that the money was obtained dishonestly, and they failed to explain how they acquired it between Sept 18, 2024 and Oct 23, the same year, at separate locations here and in Penampang.

They were charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years’ jail on conviction.

Meanwhile, Jerry Mawak was sentenced to eight months’ jail for having 0.03gm of syabu. He was charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years’ jail, or both, on conviction.
