KENINGAU: Four men, including a former native officer and a civil servant, have been remanded for seven days to assist in investigations over an alleged land sale syndicate involving bribes amounting to about RM900,000.
Magistrate Flavian Edward Henry issued the remand order until Aug 27 following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Magistrate's Court here on Thursday.
The suspects, aged between their 30s and 60s, who also include two land brokers, were arrested between 4pm and 8pm yesterday after giving their statements at the Keningau MACC office.
Initial investigations revealed that the former native officer and the civil servant allegedly conspired with the two land brokers in 2025, accepting bribes to facilitate transactions involving property belonging to third parties who had never offered it for sale.
Sabah MACC director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah said that the case is being investigated under Sections 17 and 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
