Four Sarawak areas record unhealthy air, Serian hits 179

FOUR areas in Sarawak recorded unhealthy air quality as of 8am today, with Serian recording the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading in the country at 179.

According to data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), Samarahan and Kuching each recorded API readings of 167, while Sri Aman registered 164.

Several other areas in Sarawak recorded moderate air quality, with Bintulu and Kapit each recording 95, followed by Sarikei at 94 and Sibu at 90.

In Selangor, six areas recorded moderate air quality, led by Shah Alam at 83.

Kuala Selangor and Johan Setia each recorded 78, followed by Petaling Jaya at 74, Klang at 70 and Banting at 63.

Nationwide, three areas recorded good air quality, while most other monitoring stations reported moderate readings.

Under the APIMS classification, API readings of 0 to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate and 101 to 200 unhealthy. - September 25, 2026
