FOUR 13-year-old students have been arrested in connection with the assault of their classmate at a shopping mall here, in an incident that went viral after a video of the attack was widely circulated on social media on Wednesday.
The victim, also aged 13, was punched and slapped by two classmates during the incident, which occurred at around 11am, according to Kajang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof.
“The incident took place while the victim and other students were at the shopping centre. He was approached by a group who wanted to discuss their dissatisfaction with his behaviour,” Naazron said in a statement issued on Friday.
“During the exchange, two of the students punched and slapped the victim, while two others recorded the assault on their mobile phones. The footage was later shared online.”
The victim sought treatment at a nearby hospital and was found to have sustained minor facial injuries.
A police report was lodged by the victim at 12.57pm on Thursday. Later that evening, four local male students were arrested in the Bandar Kajang area at around 8.35pm.
All four suspects have been remanded for two days until 2 August to assist investigations.
Naazron confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 323 and Section 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation, as well as Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
“Police will not compromise with any individual who breaks the law, including school students. Kajang District Police take this matter seriously and advise all students to follow school regulations and avoid behaviour that could jeopardise their future,” he said.
Naazron also called on members of the public with information about the incident to assist in the investigation by contacting Investigating Officer Inspector Shahrulhasram Ramli at 017-2530380 or visiting the nearest police station. - August 1, 2025
