Police arrested four teenage boys and seized 46 motorcycles in an operation targeting street thugs in Manjung.

IPOH: Four teenage boys were arrested and 46 motorcycles seized in an Op Motosikal operation targeting street thugs in Manjung yesterday.

The operation took place at Kilometre 75, Jalan Jelapang-Ipoh-Kampung Kayan, near the entrance to the Sitiawan Toll Plaza on the West Coast Highway.

Manjung district police chief ACP Hasbullah Abd Rahman said the operation was conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Manjung district police headquarters, together with the Perak police contingent headquarters and WCE.

He said police inspected 138 motorcycles and eight cars during the operation, which ran from 1 am to 6 am.

“A total of 234 summonses for various traffic offences were issued and four males aged between 16 and 19 years were arrested under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous riding.

“In addition, 46 motorcycles were also seized under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement today.

Hasbullah said the operation aimed to ensure road user safety and combat street thug activities in the Manjung district, with enforcement action taken to curb such activities.

He said the public could channel information on traffic offences or street gang activities to the Manjung IPD Operations Room via 05-6886222.
