Four teenagers plead guilty to brutal assault on female ride-hail driver in Alor Gajah

FOUR teenagers have pleaded guilty at the Magistrates Court here on Wednesday to charges of causing injury to a female e-hailing driver earlier this month.

The admission of guilt was made by the accused individuals, aged between fourteen and seventeen, before Magistrate Dr Teoh Shu Yee.

According to the charge sheet, they were jointly accused of intentionally causing hurt to the forty-two year old victim by using an iron bar and strangling her neck.

The offence was committed on May 4, 2026, at approximately 12.30 am in an area near the Kuala Sungai Baru forest within the Alor Gajah district.

The defendants were charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code, which carries a penalty of up to three years imprisonment, a fine, or whipping upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhamad Ehsan Nasarudin, who handled the prosecution, requested a mention date to obtain juvenile probationary reports from the Social Welfare Department. He initially offered bail at RM2,000 for each of the accused.

Defence counsel Goh Jee Chee, representing all four teenagers, appealed for the bail amount to be reduced to RM1,000.

The court subsequently granted bail at RM1,000 per defendant with one surety each, alongside the additional condition that their guardians must accompany them during every court appearance.

The court also scheduled June 24 for the mention of the case and the submission of the probationary reports.

The incident came to light after the police revealed that the female driver experienced a terrifying ordeal when she was attacked by the four teenage passengers, who reportedly lacked the funds to pay for their journey.

Alor Gajah District Police Chief, Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar, stated that the suspects comprised two boys aged fifteen and seventeen, and two girls aged fourteen, with only one of them still attending school.

Initial investigations indicated that the victim picked up the suspects from the Bukit Rambai area at around 12.30 am to transport them to Pekan Kuala Sungai Baru.

Upon arriving near the forested area in Kuala Sungai Baru, one of the suspects requested the driver to stop the vehicle on the pretext of searching for someone, while claiming they did not have money to make an online payment.

Moments later, the suspects allegedly turned aggressive, launching an assault on the victim using a hard object and strangling her neck from behind the driver's seat, while warning her not to call for assistance.

The victim managed to escape by driving away from the scene before lodging a formal report at the local police station. - May 20, 2026
