Four terrace houses destroyed in Taiping fire, no casualties reported

FOUR terrace houses at Taman Assamara here were destroyed in a fire on Wednesday night, although no casualties or injuries were reported.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division Assistant Director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received an emergency call at 10.23pm.

He said firefighters found flames raging at house number 23 upon arrival, with the fire having spread to the roof section of a neighbouring house.

"When the fire brigade arrived at the scene, the fire was found to be spreading rapidly at house number 23 and had extended to the roof area of nearby houses.

"House number 23 suffered the most severe damage, with about 85 per cent of the structure destroyed, while house number 22 sustained around 50 per cent damage.

"The other two houses suffered approximately 10 per cent and 30 per cent damage respectively, mainly involving their roof sections," he said in a statement on Thursday.

The firefighting operation involved personnel from the Taiping and Kamunting Fire and Rescue Stations, assisted by members of the Kuala Sepetang, Bagan Serai and Kuala Kurau Volunteer Fire Brigades.

Sabarodzi said a total of 31 firefighters were deployed, supported by several vehicles including the Compact Fire Rescue Tender (CFRT), Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, utility vehicles and water tankers.

"The operation commander carried out a size-up assessment before applying the RECEO concept and instructed personnel to wear full personal protective equipment (PPE).

"Firefighting efforts were conducted using several hose lines, with water supplied from the fire engines and nearby hydrants," he said.

The blaze was brought under control at 11pm, while the operation was fully concluded at 12.17am. - July 23, 2026
