Four UMS students shine in world arts championships in US

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s talents shone in the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) held recently in the US.

The Universiti Malaysia Sabah Student Representative Council congratulated students Vanessa William, Aejexrelson Rauli, Mohammad Daniel Ahmad and Jasmine Arora Seliman for their outstanding performance in the 18-24 age group category.

According to the council's Facebook post, Vanessa excelled in the solo dance categories, winning a gold medal in the grand final open dance category, two silver medals in the categories of contemporary dance and open dance, and a bronze medal in lyrical dance.

Vanessa also competed in the Dance Duo Category with Aejexrelson Rauli, where they won a gold medal in the grand final for ethnic dance category and a silver medal for contemporary dance category.

“This achievement has motivated me to keep pushing my limits and striving for excellence in everything I do.”

The student body also announced that Daniel, Jasmine and Aejexrelson, who participated in the Elite Trio Category, won three bronze medals in the categories of Jazz, Hiphop, Musical.

Meanwhile, Facebook user Syahlil Mohd Ya congratulated his daughter, Qahirah Maisarah Syahlil, on her success in reaching the Grand Champion Semi Final, where she won a silver medal in the Vocal Junior category for age group of 11-12 years old.

He said Qahirah also won a bronze medal in the Vocal Broadway category.

“As a father, I really support Qahirah’s artistic journey and always pray for her success,” he said when contacted.
