Four-year-old boy dies in lorry fire in Pasir Gudang

A four-year-old boy perished after a lorry he was in caught fire in Pasir Gudang, Johor, with the driver, believed to be his father, escaping the blaze.

JOHOR BAHRU: A four-year-old boy was burnt to death after the lorry he was travelling in caught fire this morning.

The incident occurred at Iskandar Halal Park in Cahaya Baru, Pasir Gudang.

Pasir Gudang Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Iszahwati Supardi said they received an emergency call at 10.46 am.

Six personnel with a Fire Rescue Tender were dispatched to the scene.

The team found an unloaded Volvo lorry about 60% burnt, mainly at the cab section.

“Initial action by members of the public attempted to extinguish the fire using six dry powder fire extinguishers and an excavator to cover it with soil,” Iszahwati said in a statement.

She confirmed a child was still inside the lorry at the time of the incident.

The driver, believed to be the victim’s father, managed to escape.

The child was confirmed burnt to death at the scene before firefighters extinguished the blaze.
