MANILA, Philippines — A fourth impeachment complaint was filed against Vice President Sara Duterte at the House of Representatives on Wednesday for betrayal of public trust over her alleged misuse of confidential funds and for alleged culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption and other high crimes.
The complaint was filed by lawyer Nathaniel Cabrera and was endorsed by La Union 1st District Rep. Paolo Ortega V and Manila 6th District Rep. Bienvenido Abante Jr.
Duterte's defense team, however, in a statement said that "the successive filing of complaints does not, by mere repetition, transform allegations into truth."
"As with the previous complaints, we will address the allegations fully and at the proper time, in accordance with the Constitution and the applicable rules," it said.
"We are prepared to confront these allegations squarely through the proper constitutional processes, confident that a fair and impartial review will demonstrate that the accusations are devoid of both factual and legal basis," lawyer Michael Poa, speaking for Duterte's defense team, said.
The complaint was filed hours after Duterte announced her candidacy for president in the 2028 national elections.
