The Malaysian Retail Chain Association (MRCA) has set a transaction value target of RM120 million for the 8th Franchise Expo Malaysia (FEM) 2025, a 20% increase from the RM100 million achieved in 2024. Scheduled from August 21 to 23 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), FEM 2025 aims to showcase the resilience and innovation driving Malaysia’s retail and franchise sectors.
FEM Organising Chairperson Terry Tay, also MRCA Deputy Secretary-General, emphasised the event’s forward-looking theme, “Invest in the Future.” With over 400 booths across four halls, the expo aims to be a vibrant hub for collaboration and growth. “This year’s target is supported by key drivers such as Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) between companies, on-the-ground transactions, and franchise sign-ups during the event,” Tay said. “Exhibitors have previously closed deals worth RM200,000 to RM500,000 each and reported signing 20 to 50 franchise agreements over three days.”
Christine Tan, MRCA Deputy Treasurer-General and FEM Advisor, highlighted FEM’s robust impact measurement process, which combines real-time data and exhibitor surveys. “Demand for FEM 2025 booths has already exceeded expectations, with many brands rebooking immediately after the previous event,” she noted.
MRCA President Datuk Ken Phua further highlighted Malaysia’s retail sector’s positive trajectory, citing a 4.3% year-on-year growth in the volume index of wholesale and retail trade in Q3 2024, as reported by the Department of Statistics Malaysia. “These figures underscore the resilience of Malaysia’s retail sector and its ability to adapt to evolving market demands,” Phua said.
Phua also cited data from the Malaysia Retailers Association, which reported a 3.8% growth in the retail sector, further highlighting the sector’s steady recovery.
He also shared MRCA’s efforts to empower its members in the digital age, including a recent visit to China to explore global best practices in e-commerce.
Also present at the event was MRCA’s Deputy President, Dato Liew Bin, who is also FEM 2025 Advisor.
Since its inception in 2016, FEM has grown into a cornerstone of Malaysia’s retail ecosystem. With over 550 MRCA members representing 40,000 outlets and 400,000 employees nationwide, the association continues to drive innovation and collaboration in the industry.
