In a unique public welfare initiative aimed at enhancing the comfort, dignity, and mobility of senior citizens, Nitin Kohli, Aam Aadmi Party in-charge for Jalandhar Central, has launched a free e-rickshaw service for residents aged 65 years and above. The initiative is being regarded as one of the first dedicated services of its kind for senior citizens.

The service has been launched under the campaign “Convenience for seniors, our responsibility” and is designed to assist elderly residents with their daily transportation needs. Beneficiaries will be able to avail free rides to gurdwaras, temples, satsang gatherings, social functions, medical stores and other essential destinations within the area, said Kohli while himself seated on the driver’s seat during the launch.

He issued two helpline numbers 0181-5018181 or 89686-21277 for senior citizens wishing to avail themselves of the service. Two new e-rickshaws have been deployed to provide the service.

Kohli said senior citizens are the foundation of society and deserve the highest level of respect, care and support. He emphasised that many elderly people face difficulties in commuting for routine tasks, religious visits and social engagements and this service has been introduced to ensure that transportation challenges do not become a barrier in their daily lives.

Kohli stated that development should not be measured solely through infrastructure projects but also through initiatives that improve the quality of life for people. He said his vision for Jalandhar Central is to create a constituency where every section of society — especially senior citizens, women, the youth, and the underprivileged — feels valued, supported and empowered. “Meaningful public service is about addressing real-life challenges faced by citizens and delivering practical solutions that make a positive difference", he said.
